Chooses A Thumbnail for SubNav icons
When edx writes a page it displayed the user-specified image as the icon or that link. When displaying icons for sub-directories of that icon's directory, it does not use the icon image for that, it would be too large, so it looks for a thumbnail ('t' version) of the image, or it may look for an even smaller Base 64 encoded thumbnail which it can send inline to avoid pulling in an image off the net (slow by comparison) where it has to come from a disk ( really slow ). This is a setting in edx.

edx writes a link to the icon image and a link to the thumbnail file as well as a thumb file that contains either the address of an image or the base 64 encoded image.
Image Gallery And Menu Icons
  • When index displays images as a gallery, it displays the 't' version thumbnail with links to all other sizes as well. Clicking in the image takes you to the next larger image.

  • When index displays then "bubble" menu links it uses the thumbnail 't' or Base 64 version
Makes thumnails
Upload makes all the thumbnails including one 120 pixel sized Base 64
